Acom 2000A
Having travelled the World working in the construction industry, and being fortunate enough to obtain
permission to set up an amateur radio station in some of the countries that I have lived and worked in,
I can safely say that I now have a vast experience of transporting, setting up and running various types
of radio kit, and overcoming the many problems that one encounters on these "missions"!!!
After running "various" linears for many years, I eventually decided to purchase a new Acom 2000A.
To tell you the truth, my xyl bought one, and it arrived at our house in January of 2001.
She had in the past ordered antennas and a rotator for me from Ron Stone of
Vine Antenna Products.
The unit was unpacked and the transformer transplanted into it, held my breath, switched the unit on,
and I was soon up and running in next to no time, working VK, ZL, JA etc, etc.
In all, I worked 137 stations in a very short period of time on 12mtrs, and would have gone on for ever
had I not had to go qrt for a few hours,
(Just following xyl's orders).
It was amazing how quiet the Acom ran, and it was as cool as a cucumber too, no such thing as
substituting it for the central heating system, or even keeping cups of coffee warm on the top of it.
What a joy being able to qsy without even giving another thought as to how the linear was coping, and
also having lots of information on what is going on inside and outside, using the remote control unit.
My good old TL922 stayed in position,  "just in case",    but I eventually sold it.
I am one of only thirty stations  on the CQWW All Time World Records page    -    1998  -   2004
